Orchestra & Band, Works with Orchestra and Band feature the works written for Sigurd Rascher, legendary saxophonist and pioneer of the saxophone. In this context, the saxophone is displayed as a virtuoso instrument holding to the true intentions of Adolph Sax - the ability to play beautiful melodic lines along withrapid virtuoso passages throughout the 4-octave range of the alto saxophone. | As a performer of new music, Styliani is constantly challenging and expanding the perceived limits of her instrument. Her collaborations with composers resulted in premiere performances of works specifically written for her. She has recorded on composer Lior Navok's CD Hidden Reflection. The work, which is the title of the disc, was written for Styliani's expansive saxophone technique. She is credited for the US East Coast premiere performance of Dimitri Terzakis’ Der Holle Nachklang. From an Invitation to perform in the 2003 World Saxophone Congress XIII, Styliani played Haba's Solo Saxophone work, a work that she recorded on her CD, Remembering Sigurd Rascher. Repertoire | |||||

A
Program of Melodies and Dazzlers, Styliani performs works that showcase
her virtuoso style of the alto saxophone. Styliani demonstrates Adolph
Sax's (inventor of the original intention for his instrument, the saxophone
of 1840 - invented to be utilized in a classical manner. Styliani brings
back the older virtuoso classical style that soloist such as Casals, Kreisler,
Rascher and others brought to the stage in the earlier part of the 20th.

Styliani's masterclass emphasizes the teachings of Sigurd Rascher. In her masterclass, the emphasis is to discover how the whole work is conceived as a whole through song. She emphasis tone production, technique, and how the work is built as a whole by the anchor points of each phrase. Styliani was the last of the three students ever invited to study with Sigurd Rascher, and the only female. Styliani masterclass is accompanied with a concert.
